City of Dunkirk Police arrested a City of Dunkirk man on a series of charges following an investigation into suspicious activity involving a vehicle early this morning. Just after 1:00 AM, based on information provided by a citizen, Dunkirk Police Officers approached a S.U.V. as it stopped and parked on S. Gazelle St. near the intersection of E. Second St. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Donte M. Chambers, age 22, of 609 Deer St, Dunkirk, exited the vehicle and began walking away as officers approached the vehicle. He was observed dropping several items as he walked away. He was stopped and detained by additional responding officers just around the corner on E. Second St. Officers recovered the discarded items and found them to be bags containing marijuana packaged for street sale, several large chunks of crack cocaine and a small amount of cocaine powder. He was taken into custody for the drug violations. Police continued their investigation with a check of the vehicle which revealed several open containers of alcoholic beverages and a 16 year old female passenger, who admitted to consuming alcohol provided by Chambers. Chambers was taken to Dunkirk Police Headquarters where he is being held without bail on charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree (500 milligrams or more of crack cocaine), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (cocaine powder), Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Unlawfully Dealing with a Child and Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle. The 16 year old female was issued an appearance ticket for Underage Possession of an Alcoholic beverage and was released to a parent
