On April 9th, 2017, at about 3:40 AM, Dunkirk Police Officers were dispatched to a Washington Ave residence in the City of Dunkirk for a report of a domestic in progress where it was alleged that Messiak M. Gonzalez, age 29, of Dunkirk, NY had punched a person’s vehicle windshield, severely damaging it. Upon officers’ arrival, Gonzalez had fled the scene and could not be located. Later that morning at 5:25 AM, officers were dispatched back to the same residence in which the same person was reporting to have been assaulted inside their residence after Gonzalez unlawfully entered through a window. The victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Through investigation, Dunkirk Police were able to develop a location where Gonzalez was believed to be hiding. With assistance from Fredonia Police and the New York State Police, officers located Gonzalez hiding in a closet at a different nearby Washington Ave apartment. Gonzalez was taken into custody and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. It was also found that Gonzalez was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for a violation of conditions for a previous Burglary. Gonzalez was locked up without bail.
