On Monday, February 6, 2017 at about 3:00 pm, City of Dunkirk Police patrol officers responded to the area of Washington Park for a reported fight. While dispersing the groups in the area, a concerned citizen approached officers and notified them that he had heard a female yelling for help from a residence nearby. While approaching the house, officers could hear yells for help and the breaking of windows. Officers made entry into the apartment and located Pedro Negron-Guzman, age 49, of Washington Ave, Dunkirk, NY, and an injured female. Negron-Guzman was detained while medical personnel were called to attend to the injured female. Further investigation revealed that Negron-Guzman threatened the female with a hammer and then physically assaulted her with a baseball bat causing several injuries. When the victim attempted to dial 911 Negron-Guzman reportedly swatted the phone away, preventing her from doing so. The victim then broke a window out of the residence to notify nearby officers. Negron-Guzman was transported to City of Dunkirk Police Headquarters where he was booked and charged with the offenses of Assault 2nd (felony), Menacing 2nd (misdemeanor) and Criminal Mischief 4th (misdemeanor). The female victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for further treatment of her injuries. Dunkirk Police were assisted on scene by Dunkirk Fire and Alstar personnel. Negron-Guzman is awaiting arraignment in City of Dunkirk Police lockup.
